|
UNUSUAL FIRE AND EXPLOSION HAZARDS
|
| Flammable liquid. |
| Vapors ignite or explode if they are allowed to accumulate in areas where an ignition source could be present. |
| Closed containers may explode if exposed to extreme heat, such as occurs in a fire. |
| May float on water while burning. |
| Do not store or mix with strong oxidants. |
FIRE AND EXPLOSION DATA - CONTINUED Special Fire Fighting Procedures
|
| Water may be ineffective. |
| If water is used, nozzles are preferable. |
| Water may be used to cool exposed containers, but care should be taken not to spread any burning liquid. |
| MESA/NIOSH approved self-contained breathing apparatus should be worn when fighting indoor fires, and should be available when fighting outdoor fires. |
| Self contained breathing apparatus should be worn by firefighters or others exposed to the vapors from this product in a fire situation (for instance if the container ruptures from severe heat exposure). |
| Use protective clothing to prevent contact with ingredients listed in Section 2. HEALTH HAZARD DATA |
| Threshold limit value - see Section 2 |
| **The P O T E N T I A L Health hazards identified below will not express themselves if exposure is eliminated. This product will not present an actual health risk in the workplace if it is handled in accordance with good industrial hygiene practices and in accord with this MSDS. |
| As with all chemical products, skin, eye, or respiratory irritation could occur under certain conditions. Individuals with pre-existing skin or respiratory disorders may be more susceptible to these effects. |
| Due to solvent content, breathing of vapors may cause headache, nausea, dizziness, vomiting, and in extreme cases, unconsciousness. Liquid may cause defatting of skin and dermatitis. The likelihood of these effects occurring is partially dependent upon the amount of solvent in the product, as indicated in Section 2.
|
| May cause severe eye irritation. |
| Contact with skin may result in destruction of tissue, burning sensation, and/or reddening of affected areas. |
| Prolonged or excessive exposure to vapor or mist may result in toxic effects.
|
| Possibility of liver and/or kidney damage from overexposure.
|
| May be toxic if swallowed.
|
|
EMERGENCY AND FIRST AID PROCEDURES
|
| Wash with soapy water, rinse thoroughly. |
| Consult a physician if irritation persists. |
| Remove contaminated clothing. |
| Flush with water. |
| Discard shoes if contaminated. |
| Flush with lots of clean water for at least 15 minutes. |
| Consult a physician. |
| Remove victim to fresh air. |
| Give mouth to mouth breathing if person has stopped breathing. |
| Get medical attention. |
| Seek medical advice. |
| Do not induce vomiting unless directed to do so by doctor or poison control center. |
| Stability: |
Stable |
| Incompatibility: |
Strong oxidizing or reducing agents.
Liquid chlorine and concentrated oxygen.
Strong acids or bases, selected amines.
Water, acids alkalis and strong oxidizing agents. |
| Hazardous Decomposition Products: |
Combustion may yield carbon monoxide and/or carbon dioxide.
Oxides of nitrogen (Thermal Decomp).
Traces of hydrogen cyanide. |
| Hazardous Polymerization: |
Will not occur |
| Conditions to Avoid: |
Materials listed under "incompatibility" on the MSDS. |
| Steps to be Taken in Case Material is Released or Spilled |
| Small spills may be absorbed on appropriate absorbent, such as vermiculite, clay-based absorbents, etc. |
| Large spills should be handled be stopping the flow of the liquid at its source, preventing further spread of the spill (as by diking), and transferring the liquid and any spill clean-up debris to proper containers. |
| When handling spill incidents, eliminate all potential ignition sources, such as flares, flames, pilot lights, smoking , sparking motors. etc. If the spill is indoors or in a confined area, ventilate the area (such as by opening windows and doors), but do not use spark-producing equipment, such as non-explosion-proof fans. Use non-sparking tools for cleanup. Take all other precautions appropriate to handling a spill of a material that contains flammable or combustible liquids.
|
| Keep out of public sewers, streams, and rivers. |
| It may be necessary to wear self-contained breathing apparatus and full protective clothing to enter spill area, evaluate percentage of hazardous ingredients in Section 2, and nature of spill, to make a determination. |
| Dispose of in accordance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations. Any hazardous ingredients listed in Section 2 must be taken into consideration, but since these are listed for safety purposes, there may be other ingredients or properties of this product that must be considered. Contact the supplier if more information is needed. Contains flammable or combustible solvents. Incineration or solvent recovery may be considered as possible waste handling methods. Dispose only in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations. If flash point listed in section 4 is 140 degrees or less, this product if discarded directly, would be a hazardous waste based upon the characteristic of ignitability, and perhaps due to the presence of certain solvents listed under EPA waste #'s F003 and F005. |
|
USER RESPONSIBILITY FOR SPILLS AND WASTES
|
| The user of this product who generates a waste containing this product is solely responsible for that waste. |
|
SPECIAL PROTECTION INFORMATION
|
| In restricted ventilation areas use NIOSH-approved chemical cartridge respirators for vapors, or combination chemical cartridge and spray mist filters for mists from spraying. In confined areas or in cases of very high concentrations, as from spills indoors, use NIOSH-approved air-supplied or self-contained breathing apparatus. The hazardous ingredients listed in Section 2 should be considered in choosing the proper respiratory protection. For solvents, organic vapor cartridges are generally appropriate. |
| Provide general dilution ventilation or local exhaust as needed to keep vapor concentrations or the ingredients listed in Section 2 to below their TLV’s. Local exhaust is essential for spraying operations. If effects of overexposure listed in Section 5 are evident, ventilation may be inadequate. |
| Contains flammable solvents. Exhaust systems should incorporate spark-proof blowers, fan blades, etc.
|
| Use of solvent resistant gloves is strongly recommended. |
| The substances listed in Section 2 must be taken into consideration when selection gloves. |
| Splash-proof chemical goggles, or equivalent eye protection. |
|
Other Protective Equipment
|
| It is recommended that a safety shower and eye wash be available wherever this product is handled or used. |
|
Handling and Storage Precautions
|
| Normal good housekeeping and good industrial hygiene procedures should be adhered to. Unnecessary, excessive, and/or prolonged personal contact should be avoided. Use only with adequate ventilation. |
| Keep form heat, sparks, open flames, hot metal surfaces, and other ignition sources. Prohibit smoking in areas where this product is handled. Handle only with equipment appropriate for handling flammable liquids. Apply product in properly exhausted equipment only.
Remove contaminated clothing. Wash before reuse. |
|
Other Precautions or Notes
|
| Hazardous product residue may remain after the product has been removed from its container. |
| Do not reuse "empty" container without commercial cleaning or reconditioning. |
